Personal History Born in the Scottish Highlands to parents who owned a farm near the village of Lochcarron, Mac knew at a young age that he wanted to become a doctor. After obtaining his medical degree in Edinburgh, he moved back to the highlands where he met and fell in love with Sarah, a nurse at the Inverness hospital where he worked.

Becoming one of Scotland’s top trauma surgeons, life couldn’t have been better until the day Sarah died in a sailing accident whilst out with her brother on Loch Carron. Mac was devastated and turned to alcohol to drown his sorrows. It took him a year to pull himself out of the hole that he had dug for himself in his grief but eventually he decided that he had to move on with his life.

Whilst he adores his beloved Scotland, after the death of his wife he developed a wanderlust to see the world and later on the galaxy. Some say it was in an effort to escape the gaping hole that her passing had left in his life. He joined Starfleet at the age of 39 and was fast tracked through Starfleet Medical due to his already vast experience as a doctor. His case is an unusual one and as a result, whilst his officer experience is limited, his experience has left him in the unique situation of being given a posting with far more responsibility that would usually be accredited to a fresh out of the Academy officer.
