Personality & Traits

General Overview Ever since she was a little girl, Evlyn has always been a very strong person. She is fiercely independent because of having lost her parents at a very young age. As such, she tends to rely on her own instincts and intuitions instead of people. That isn’t to say that she doesn’t like being around others. She simply has a difficult time trusting anyone other than herself. If she allows herself to open up to her peers, they will find that Evlyn is caring, and can be very outgoing. She is also very confident in herself, her skills and intelligence. She works hard in everything that she does and she’s good at it. She knows this too although she won’t brag about such things. She allows her work to speak for itself.
Ambitions Evlyn has gone to great lengths over the years to find out the truth behind the death / disappearance of her parents. It was one of the main reasons she joined Starfleet. She needed to expand her skillset and core knowledge so that she was better prepared to dig into her past to find the answers she has sought her entire life for.
Hobbies & Interests Work has always been Evlyn’s primary focus in life but as she is Ardanan, she has had the privilege of pursuing the arts. To be more specific, she is proficient in a type of wind instrument that sounds like a saxophone. She also dances as a way to stay fit. Evlyn has undergone extensive training in hand to hand combat. She doesn’t want to be regarded as a pushover. On quieter days, Evlyn will often take to reading a book in her quarters.

Personal History Evlyn Madec was born on August 3rd of the year 2352 in First City on the planet of Ardana. She is the only child of parents Hektor and Janel who’d had some difficulty in conceiving a child for many years. It might have been expected, as a result of their troubles, that Evlyn would have been spoiled as a child. That was not the case, although she was never left to want for anything. Evlyn attended the very best educational institutions and also took part in the activities that she wanted to. She quickly developed an interest in music and dancing, both of which her parents enjoyed watching her perform in.

Tragedy befell the Madec family when Evlyn was but seven years old. They made a voyage from Ardana to the nearby Donatu System. At the Donatu V Spaceport, Evlyn’s parents had been asked to inspect some temporary accommodations on behalf of the legislative council from Ardana. During the inspection, Hektor and Janel were accidentally locked in one of the rooms. Moments later, toxic gas poured in from the vents. In an attempt to save them, security personnel on the station attempted to beam them out but were initially unable to. Something was inhibiting them from locking on to the Ardanan bio-signs. After a few more failed attempts, the transporter operator was able to acquire a signal lock but when he attempted to transport them away, there was a catastrophic failure in the transporter systems which resulted in the complete loss of their signals. Evlyn’s parents were gone.

Following a short investigation which yielded no answers, Evlyn returned home and was placed under the care of her grandparents. Under their guidance, she was able to once again live an ordinary, everyday life. As she became older, and gained understanding, the lack of a resolution to her parents’ murder continuously nagged at her in the back of her mind. When she was a teenager, she even made several requests to the Ardanan security services to investigate the case but they refused, saying that it was closed. Feeling betrayed by her own people, Evlyn did not know where to turn to. Her plight, and the hurt that she felt from it, did not go unnoticed by her grandparents. As Evlyn’s grandmother had, in the past interacted with Humans, she suggested to her that she might be able to get the answers she was looking for if she enlisted in Starfleet. Joining Starfleet had never even crossed her mind! With nothing to lose by trying, Evlyn met with her grandmother’s long-time acquaintance: Captain Anthony Wilson. After several discussions between the two were had it was agreed that the Captain would sponsor her so that she could take the entrance examination. Evlyn did not look back from there. She put in the work and the time and studied diligently. She then took the exam and successfully passed it, granting her the opportunity to become a Starfleet Officer.

At the Academy, Evlyn majored in astrophysics and astronomy. After she graduated in 2374, she was assigned as an Operations Officer aboard the U.S.S. Nakoda. She only served on that vessel for one year. Having never forgotten the reason she joined Starfleet in the first place, Evlyn felt that the Nakoda’s missions were too distant for her to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of her parents. Thus, she requested a transfer to something more stationary; Starbase 2 located near the Klingon border and more importantly, the Donatu System. Aboard SB2, Evlyn climbed the ranks and even became a department head. Despite her success as an officer, she was making little progress when it came to her own personal investigation. That was when she realized that being a Starfleet Officer wasn’t going to be enough. She reached out to Starfleet Intelligence in 2383. Shortly thereafter, she became a part of that division under the agreement that they would help her find who killed her parents in return for her services.

Over the next five years, Evlyn made more progress than she ever had before although she was still nowhere near to finding out the truth behind the incident at the Donatu V Spaceport long ago. In 2387, due to the chaos surrounding the Romulan Star Empire thanks to the destruction of Romulus and Remus, the search was temporarily suspended. A year later, Starfleet Intelligence needed her elsewhere and transferred her to the U.S.S. Kumari. Evlyn wasn’t too pleased about leaving a place that she’d come to call home but she knew that she had little choice. She either did as she was asked, or SFI would no longer help her.
